ACT for Women and Girls is recruiting for their next Female Leadership Academy (FLA). The academy spans 8 months during which time you develop leadership skills. Some of the skills you will cultivate are: public speaking, negotiation skills, civic participation and activism, research and analysis, team building, and community organizing.
The following are a few of the things the last group accomplished:
- FLA educated teens and young adults all over the County about HIV/STI’s and Birth Control through a training provided in Lindsay, Tulare, Woodlake, Visalia and Farmersville.
- FLA assessed 23 pharmacies in Tulare County and graded them to create a comprehensive report card determining if they were youth friendly and stocked emergency contraception and condoms.
- FLA met with their representatives in Sacramento, Fresno and Visalia to educate them about reproductive justice issues and budget cuts.
- FLA was presented with a proclamation from the City of Visalia acknowledging Teen Pregnancy Prevention month.
- FLA wrote 15 editorials to the Visalia Times Delta on issues ranging from immigrant issues, reproductive health and LGBT issues.
- FLA passed out over 1,500 condoms to teens and provided resources to access birth control during their “Don’t Let a Hot Date Turn Into A Due Date Campaign”
If these issues or others are important to you, don’t miss out on this great opportunity. You really will come out a fighter and be well equipped to make much needed changes in the world.
